As the current semester of Graduate School in the Washington, DC area has come to an end, I finally had a free weekend to make the pilgrimage to Katie’s Cars & Coffee, a weekly event hosted by Katie’s Coffee House in Great Falls, Virginia. Katie’s Cars & Coffee is from 6am-9am every Saturday, rain or shine. It is a wonderful event where car people can geek out on all things vehicular for three hours and sip some great coffee. I’ve been a few times in past, including the day of the infamous “Ferrari Crash” last August. After a while, some vehicles don’t seem that special anymore, and I really look out for some of the oddball cars to arrive. Today happened to be my lucky day… Read More

Welcome to another addition of our Ford Addict Throwback series! A place where we talk about our favorite Ford vehicles from the past, as well as entertaining history lessons too! Today’s post is one of the latter. In honor of Ford’s victory in the LM GTE Pro Category at the 2016 24 Hours of LeMans, we’d like to tell the tale of Ford at the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans, which occurred 50 years ago! Read More
The wait is over Ford Addicts, the all-new 2017 Fusion is here! Ford’s award-winning and critically acclaimed midsize sedan has been updated, and features improvements that make it stand out in its class! Those who have seen the good looks of the Fusion, or have experienced it’s superb driving characteristics, will be anxious to see what is new. Here are 5 things to get excited about in the new 2017 Ford Fusion!
When buying a new vehicle, most buyers tend to want the best value initially, but wouldn’t you like to know you can still drive a car you love without taking a huge depreciation hit? The Ford F-150, Ford Edge, and Ford Transit Connect all have been awarded the Highest Retained Value from TrueCar! The 2014 models were given this award for their longevity and product competitiveness within their respected segments.
The 2014 F-150 is the proud winner of the full-size pickup category for the 2016 TrueCar Pre Owned Value Award. Why you ask? That’s because the Ford F-150 has been given praise for its combination of class leading technology and durability. In fact, the competition is outnumbered, as there are more F-Series trucks on the road with over 250,000 miles then other full-size pickup brands! I guess there’s a reason why the F-150 has been America’s best selling truck for 39 years strong!
The 2014 Edge was also a winner for the midsize SUV with second row seating category. Ford completely redesigned the Edge for the 2015 model year, and the 2016 continue to improve on that greatness! We praised the Edge for its amenities and excellent driving abilities in our review, and buyers seem too agree! With available features, such as a 2.7L EcoBoost engine, active park assist, and 180-degree camera, the 2016 Ford Edge is a pinnacle of Ford technologies that create a fun driving experience that is also focused on safety.
The 2014 Transit Connect won the top ranking for the midsize commercial vehicle category. We’ve described Ford vans as faithful companions in the past, and this award proves that statement. Along with the Transit and E-Series vans, Ford’s vans are the bestselling commercial vehicles in all 50 states, and Washington D.C. If you need a maneuverable van for your small business needs, the Transit Connect is worth a look!
Ford’s 2016 lineup is expanding on these successes to create the best vehicles out there. So when the time comes to upgrade to a newer model, you can be sure that the technologies you love will be better then ever, and with the Highest Retained Value in their classes, these vehicles are some of the best buys out there!
- More buyers are shifting toward fuel efficient and smaller SUVs
- Ford’s EcoBoost tech is allowing SUVs to have the fuel efficiency of a small sedan with the power of a midsize one
- Ford has announced they will launch 4 new SUVs to their lineup soon, but what could they be?
Ford has recently made a big announcement about their new product lineup! The blue oval plans on adding four new SUV’s to their lineup in the near future, which naturally has us here at Ford Addict excited! Ford is known for making some innovative and game changing products (i.e. the original Mustang, the aluminum F-150, to name a few), so what exciting new stuff will they have planned?
It is noted that “millennials” have been gravitating toward smaller SUVs, and not larger sedans of the past. The capabilities of a newer Ford SUVs, matched with the advanced fuel efficiency of the EcoBoost engine family has created a boom in the market. More and more young families, and even baby boomers are looking for efficient SUVs. Ford has decided to expand their lineup to fit the markets needs!
Rumors have been circulating that since Ford already makes small, midsize, and large SUV’s, a compact one might join the stable. Ford does sell another SUV based on the Fiesta compact in other markets called the EcoSport. This SUV is powered by the same engines offered in the current Fiesta, including the superb 1.0L EcoBoost. We’d love to see this crossover on the roads soon!
So if the EcoSport comes stateside, that covers the Compact-Full Size categories. But what about a Wrangler competitor? We think there is a possibility of the Bronco returning! Ford Addict’s like us have been anxiously anticipating the return of the beloved Bronco nameplate ever since it was discontinued in 1996. Imagine a modern version of the tough Bronco, but with all the modern Four-Wheel-Drive tech that has been developed in Ford’s SUV and Pickup lineup in the past 20 years! Selectable AdvanvceTrac 4WD that could be modified to fit Off-Road specific conditions, not to mention rough weather, would be a dream.
Bronco fans have already started making renderings of what they want the next one to look like. And maybe, just maybe, someone over at Ford Performance will get their hands on the Bronco, and tweak it just slightly, to make it into a rock-crawling, sand dune jumping, Raptor-like vehicle. Could this vehicle be, dare we say, unstoppable?
As for the other two vehicles, we are not sure what Ford has planned. We can dream, but until then, we here at Ford Addict will sit patiently waiting for Ford’s big announcement that our beloved Bronco off-roader will make a triumphant return in our showrooms, driveways, and hearts. But until that day comes, lets enjoy the Raptor!
Uber is the very popular smartphone app that allows users to get transportation in the form of drivers using their personal vehicles. As a user, it is not uncommon to see a trend of car makes that are popular. For example, I have had many different Honda Accords and Toyota Corollas as Uber Vehicles. But with the popularity and limited color choices, I have seen people get into the wrong vehicle thinking it was the Uber they ordered. It wasn’t until I started to notice the good and bad qualities of an Uber Vehicle that I realized, a new Ford would make a really good one.
Luckily for me, I requested an Uber X, and too my surprise, it wasn’t the typical bland sedan, but rather a Ford Edge. This Edge was an older model, but no older than a 2012 if I had to guess. The instantly recognizable styling of the Edge made is stand out in traffic, and its black painted 20-inch Sport Appearance Package wheels with White paint made a statement.
The Uber pulled up on the side of a busy street, and my three friends and I got in. Instantly we realized this car was levels ahead of the basic bland-mobiles we were used to. The seats were Leather with suede inserts, a feature only found on the Sport Appearance Package. The MyFordTouch system was easy for playing music, or clearly displaying radio and climate information. The seats were comfy, the backseat was spacious, but the best feature for passengers had to be the Vista Roof panoramic sunroof. Driving around the city looking up at the buildings through the large sunroof was just a cool way to enjoy the ride. By the end of the journey, everyone was comfortable, and the Edge received many complements for its smooth ride that make potholes seem invisible to the passengers.
So my vote for the best Ford Uber vehicle is the Ford Edge. The older bodystyle makes a really good buy as a Certified Pre-Owned model, as even the lower trims come very well equipped. They get great gas mileage at 21 city/ 30 highway with the EcoBoost engine, have available intelligent All-Wheel-Drive for extra grip in subpar driving conditions, and that huge sunroof too! The 2016 Ford Edge evolves on this, with new SYNC 3, new EcoBoost engines, and extra amenities, such as heated rear seats, without losing that urban style of the Edge. Which Ford do you think is best suited for ride-sharing duties?
Its hard to believe that the Ford Escape is almost 17 years old. Ever since its rugged first generation model was introduced in 2000, buyers have fallen for its efficient powertrains, capable Four-Wheel-Drive systems, and agile driving characteristics. Now, the 2017 Ford Escape has been unveiled and its better than ever!
Seasonal weather shouldn’t interfere with holiday plans. Everyone with a 2016 Ford knows they can get there no matter what winter throws at them! This is thanks to the ultra capable Ford Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive system. This system monitors road conditions and adjusts accordingly. This then allows for optimal traction in any situation, assuring you that your sure-footed Ford will get you to your destination with no trouble.
How does it do this? Magic of course! The magic of great engineering that is, as the Intelligent drive system monitors data all over the vehicle such as steering angle, pedal position, acceleration, turning, and wheel speeds every second to prevent traction loss from the start. If it senses traction loss it will send torque to the rear wheels as needed to instantly improve handling.
Did you also know that this system helps in normal driving conditions too, not just rain or snow? It can send the power to the front wheels in normal driving conditions to help make the vehicle more efficient, which in turn will save you money. But if you’re a performance geek like us here at Ford Addict, you’ll also notice that the power can also be sent to the rear wheels in normal conditions to aid acceleration as well.
In the 2016 Explorer models a Terrain Management System allows a choice of 5 settings to optimize the vehicles capabilities on and off road. These modes are Normal, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Grass/Gravel/Snow, and Hill Control.
It’s probably with mentioning that you can get All-Wheel Drive on vehicles outside of Ford’s SUV range. In fact: Here is a list of 2016 Ford models that can be optioned with All-Wheel or Four-Wheel Drive:
- 2016 Ford Focus RS
- 2016 Ford Fusion
- 2016 Ford Tarus
- 2016 Ford Flex
- 2016 Ford Escape
- 2016 Ford Explorer
- 2016 Ford Expedition
- 2016 Ford F-150
- 2016 Ford Super Duty
With most of Ford’s award winning lineup available in this configuration, isn’t it time you had the chance to drive a truly smart car?
The all-new 2015 Ford F-150 has great innovations that completely threw a curve ball into the otherwise repetitive pickup truck industry. Between the new powerful EcoBoost engines, and lightweight aluminum body, many of the F-150’s new features haven’t gotten much spotlight. But these convenient innovations are very clever and should be talked about more. One innovation more truck owners need to look into is the new F-150 BoxLink system. Read More
